Default IPL and Microdermabrasion

Hello Dr. Nase,

I have mild Rosacea. I also have enlarged pores, mostly around my nose area. I am considering IPL for the overall redness and microdermabrasion for my enlarged pores. I was wondering if I could have the microdermabrasion treatments done on my nose only without having to do the entire face, as my cheeks are very sensitive. My nose does not have any Rosacea symptoms, it mostly resides on my cheeks. Thank you for any advice.

Default Hey David

Just a word of advise, do NOT get a microdermabrasion, regardless whether your nose is effected right now or not eventually it might be so you don't want to take that chance. I use to get them done and now I regret it because they are very harsh.

Hello David,

I am extremely conservative when it comes to microdermabrasion and rosacea because I have seen too many people progress into full blown rosacea after just one treatment. It is a gamble. Stay away from all diamond and crystal based microdermabrasion... that's most of them.

However, there are some new laser micropeels that I am impressed with. I personally spent two weeks with the Sciton laser and performed several Laser Micro Peels and Arctic Peels. One uses a laser that can remove just a couple cells... its extremely precise. The other one uses plain air at high speeds. We performed these at 10 microns and then followed them with a vascular laser to treat the blood vessels. It worked extremely well. It had an excellent effect on pores, but these need to be done every 4 to 6 weeks and go down 10 to 30 microns at the most. Then, if there is any vascular reaction, the Sciton IPL can easily remove the vessels.

Please be cautious and take your time. Laser based micropeels are the safest and most accurate you will find. I hope that helps. Please keep us posted on what you decide.

Default Thanks DR. Nase

Thank you for the advice. I will not go forward with the professional Microdermabrasion but will go through with the IPL.

I've had success with the laser micropeels. Just be extra cautious and start out conservatively to see how your skin responds.
