I ran out of Azithromycin recently and refused to go back and see my essentially worthless dermatologist just for a scrip. I took some, basically, left over Minocycline from an earlier presciptio til it was done. I was experiencing some pretty severe swelling on and around the nose, and breakouts as well. I called the Dr. whose laser tech had worked on me in Oct. and he put me on a 1 week course of Clarithromycin, 500 mg, twice a day. That was a week and a half ago. Finished the course, it seemed to really help, then the last day or so I starting breaking out. Couldn't figure out what was causing it at the time and thought, "There's no way it could be the antibiotic."

I have another 2 week course of Clarithromycin XL, once a day, and took one Friday but have not since. I have two huge pustules on my face right now and am unsure as to what to do or where to turn. Has anybody had a problem with antibiotics and Rosadying clashing? Is anybody still on antibiotics? Could this outbreak be due to the Clarithro?

Desperately seeking answers.

Hi Ric,

You have just detailed the natural progression of rosacea. This is not due to the antibiotic or Rosadyn OR the combination of either. It is the end result of the swelling you experienced. Over time the fluid and proteins will signal immune cells to the area, most notably inflammatory neutrophils. These cellls will then slowly migrate up to the surface and result in skin erruptions - papules and pustules. I would definitely stay on clarithromycin and Rosadyn. You can go up to 1,000 mgs of Clarithromycin XL per day and always realize that there is a delay before the onest of clearance and also a delay in the onset of symptoms.

Clarithromycin is a great med. Cardiologists are now using it permanently to reduce vascular inflammation and plaque formation. You might want to consider pulse dosing after you clear.... one tab on Saturday and one on Wed. to maintain clearance and treat your rosacea synergistically with Rosadyn.

Please keep us all updated on your progress.
