Description and Comments
Rambazole is a retinoic acid metabolism blocking agent (RAMBA), which means that it inhibits the natural biological breakdown of retinoic acid. Retinoic acid (Vitamin A) and related compounds called retinoids (e.g. Soriatane/acetretin) have long been known to be effective treatments for psoriasis. By preventing the breakdown of retinoic acid, drugs like Rambazole increase the amount of retinoic acid inside cells, thereby relieving psoriasis symptoms in a manner similar to Soriatane/acetretin. Studies are underway to determine whether Rambazole can provide the same benefits as Soriatan/acetretin with fewer side effects such as increased lipid levels.
